LORENZO NACCARATO TRIO – JAZZ CONCERT
Alliance Française de Bangalore & blueFROG with the support of DGAF- India Nepal & Institut Français in India present a Jazz Concert by
LORENZO NACCARATO TRIO
Lorenzo Naccarato Trio elaborates on the concept of a kinematic jazz, in that the notion of movement lies at the heart of its musical exploration. Founded in 2012 with Adrien Rodriguez and Benjamin Naud, Lorenzo Naccarato Trio gets known in Toulouse on the developing jazz scene and, from springboards to festivals, receives the public’s increasingly enthusiastic welcome.
In their compositions, Lorenzo Naccarato Trio take us to a magnetic aesthetics that is chiselled and fluid. The compositions of this young Franco-Italian pianist is already on par with the works of Avishai Cohen or the EST trio, and it is true that it is possible to find a family resemblance between these figureheads and ‘cinematic’ jazz, axled to the idea of movement, of the Lorenzo Naccarato trio.
About Lorenzo Naccarato:
After studying the classical piano for ten years, Lorenzo Naccarato began studying musicology at a university in Toulouse in 2007. Specialising in Jazz and improv music, he conducted a research project on Thelonious Monk and took part in Master classes under Laurent Cugny, Franck Avitabile, Kenny Barron, Enrico Pieranunzi and Claude Tchamitchian, who had a determining influence on his approach to composition and group work.

GATHAS with Ariana Vafadari
07:00 PM / 20th Feb 2018 / AF Auditorium
The Gathas are the prayers of Zoroastrianism, the monotheistic religion of Ancient Persia. These poems from philosopher and prophet Zarathustra date from about 3700 years. They are surprisingly modern, expressing the life, doubts and choices of a man. As there are no records of the way they were sung originnally, Franco-Iranian Ariana Vafadari composed every song according to radifs or oriental scales. It results in music that constantly vibrates between its Oriental mystic foundations and their matching Western opera. Ariana Vafadari and her musicians have a common trait, they unremittingly stretch musical boundaries. In perfect continuity with their cultural and musical backgrounds, they were trained by traditional Iranian, Ottoman and Moroccan music, jazz, Western classical music or opera, in their improvisations and the practice of their instruments, they travel freely from one world to the next.

Drawing from the friction of these different cultures, this work attempts to discover the foundation and the conditions for the emergence of joy, be it individual or collective. On the borders of movement, text and music, this joyful and chaotic play will reconcile ourselves with the human species and all its ironies.

This play reading is a part of the Alliance française de Bangalore and Bangalore Little Theatre partnership.
Some highly imaginative and enterprising playwright of yore, created a character non-existent in the epic Mahabharatha and got her married to the Pandava prince Abhimanyu amidst a mélange of mystery, mischief and magic spells and made the theatre buffs of the time in the western Hindi belt believe that such a character really existed! In the epic, there is no daughter by the name Sasirekha or Surekha or Vatsala for the Yadava lord Balarama. The popular play found its way to cinema.
In his 2013 book, Bollywood Nation: India through Its Cinema, Vamsee Juluri wrote, “Maya Bazar’s appeal is of course as much in its story as in its stars. But the performances and the beautiful songs and sets aside, the film also reveals an interesting feature of the Telugu mythological in its Golden Age—it is a story about something not very important from a doctrinal view of religion at all”. Juluri also termed Ranga Rao’s performance as “mighty and majestic”.
